Amcanu recently had the privilege of working with Futraheat on the development of an enclosure for their revolutionary high temperature heat pump compressor, Greensteam, featuring their TurboClaw® turbo-compressor technology. This cutting-edge, high-temperature heat pump is designed to recover waste heat and return steam at up to 130°C – representing a significant breakthrough in sustainable energy solutions, particularly relevant for industrial processes.
The project involved creating an enclosure that would safely house a wide array of components, from compressor systems and electrical parts, to condensers and evaporators, while maintaining optimal operational efficiency. The enclosure needed to reflect both the innovative nature of the technology and the practical needs of industrial-scale equipment.
This was the first of many – a working prototype that would be used to demonstrate the product and drive sales. The enclosure had to be practical enough to be easily retrofit into existing assets, as well as looking every bit as good as the product inside.
Futraheat's Greensteam unit contained a significant amount of advanced technology that needed to be housed within the most compact and efficient enclosure. The components included; compressors, motors, oil systems, electrical cooling, condensers, evaporators, bypass cooler, suction accumulator, pipework and all the various fluid and electrical systems.
With so many critical systems to fit into one enclosure, Amcanu's design team faced the challenge of space optimisation and ensuring the internal layout delivered in terms of safety, accessibility, and operational efficiency.
Given the innovative nature of Futraheat’s product, the design process had to be fluid and highly collaborative. Both Futraheat’s product development team and Amcanu’s technical design engineers worked closely throughout the project to ensure that the enclosure met all technical requirements. As the project evolved, design changes were necessary to ensure the TurboClaw® technology was able to realise its full potential – original plans and technical designs evolved alongside product development.

With so many complex components being integrated into the enclosure, weight became a key consideration. As more systems were added, the overall weight of the finished product increased – presenting challenges for lifting and installation. Amcanu’s team tackled this head-on, reconfiguring the internal layout and adjusting the placement of key components to ensure safe lifting for installation. By carefully balancing the components and engineering the enclosure for strength, the final product could be easily and safely manoeuvred without compromising its integrity.
The final enclosure not only met the technical and operational needs of Futraheat’s Greensteam unit but also exceeded expectations in terms of design and aesthetics. Powder-coated in the company’s brand colour, with the Futraheat branding proudly displayed, the enclosure looks modern and professional – perfectly aligned with the breakthrough technology that is set to have a major impact on the sustainability and decarbonisation of industrial processes.

As this was the first version of our product, the design had to flex and accommodate new requirements. Amcanu quickly understood our objectives and helped shape a finished product that we’re really proud of. This first enclosure is now our standard starting point for all future variations, which will make it easy to accommodate the specific requirements of each of our customers.
