Let’s be honest, this could be a disaster! But it does work for us – so we thought we’d give an honest account of the benefits and pitfalls of family members working together.
Amcanu have a rich history of working with apprentices. Training young people at the start of their careers allows us to identify those who will become an integral part of the Amcanu team as we continue to grow.
Amcanu build industrial enclosures and technology cabinets – it’s what we’re known for and yet we also have some surprisingly artistic metal creations emerging from our factory thanks to local artist Alan, from Art in Steel!
Our fantastic local school, Parc y Tywyn is the latest Passivhaus and BREEAM Excellent school building in Wales. Our children now have access to light, airy eco-friendly classrooms which provide an amazing learning environment. Our town may be tiny but the facilities on offer are world-class.
We were delighted to support a local STEM event organised by Lee Waters, Llanelli Assembly Member (AM), in recognition of the pilot and adventurer Amelia Earhart. The event was for 100 school girls aged 8 and offered ‘flight’ themed activities to give them a fun experience of science and tech.
Our Phil Tucker is off to Hawaii to compete in the IRONMAN World Championships. Phil earned his place through an amazing performance in the 2016 IRONMAN in Weymouth – where he ranked 11 out of 883.

Giving skills and experience to young people in the local community has always been at the heart of our business – more than 50% of our entire workforce have completed apprenticeships over the past 40 years.
We take delivery of homemade mince pies from our local STEM students, on the road to the finals of TeenTech City of Tomorrow – a national competition in London.
We want to support the engineers of the future – particularly in our own community – so we are working with our local secondary school to provide a bursary fund to facilitate some of their STEM activities.

Family-run business and Burry Port’s largest employer, Amcanu, marked its 40th Birthday yesterday with a modest celebration for those who have played an integral role in the company’s story so far.
OK, with their numerous trophies and currently ranked 21st in the world, it's fair to say that Burry Port Town Band have been going places since they were founded in 1896... although now they do it in style!
